Archaeological Information Systems: Work experience placement

Overview

The module offers an opportunity for students of Archaeological Information Systems or Digital Heritage to gain practical experience working in a professional, academic, or heritage environment.  They will be able to work on projects that enable them to gain new skills or put into use those skills they have gained from their taught courses.

Aims

  • To provide experience of computer applications within a working environment in the historic environment sector.
  • To consolidate knowledge and understanding of computer applications in one or more of the taught modules.

Learning outcomes

  • Have gained detailed knowledge of how information technology is used in the workplace in the historic environment sector, under the guidance of experienced professionals.
  • Have an understanding of the contexts in which IT is applied, and of real world limitations.
  • Have developed their IT skills in one or more of the core areas covered by the taught programme (i.e. database design, web technologies, digital archiving, electronic publication, CAD, GIS, and virtual reality modeling).
