Additional information for staff
Generative AI is having a huge impact on graduate employers and job seekers, leading to a surge in applications and ultimately making it more competitive for students to secure a graduate job. The University of York Careers and Placements team is actively researching this issue and regularly discussing the impact of AI with employers recruiting students into part-time work, internships and graduate jobs.
There are threats and opportunities for both graduate employers and students/graduates applying for jobs when it comes to the use of AI in applications and recruitment activities. However in our recent publication, Applying for jobs and generative AI: What do employers really think?, we identified a significant gap between the perspectives of graduate employers and those of students and graduates applying for jobs. On our recruitment advice webpages we detail some of the key points to consider if you are thinking about using AI in a job application, interview or other recruitment activity. We share insights on employer attitudes and links to further trusted sources of info.
In Careers and Placements we are committed to helping you stay at the cutting edge of recruitment practices. Our friendly team of Careers Professionals welcome you to visit the careers service for our Drop In (10-12pm Mon - Thurs in semester time), or book a careers advice appointment where we you can discuss how to use AI ethically and effectively in recruitment tasks.
Another way to keep up to date with what's happening in the jobs market is to attend our careers events. For example, we work in collaboration with the Digital Skills Team to deliver events related to AI, work and recruitment. See the following link to sign up for generative AI training sessions.
