Event details

Are you curious about the role of games in environmental education, research and public engagement? Do you have experience in game research or design? Or are you interested in engaging others with environmental issues through the medium of games? Play for the Planet exists to connect, learn, create and act on environmental crises through all kinds of games including tabletop, digital and role-playing games. Everyone with an interest in game design and research in the context of the climate and ecological crises is welcome to share experiences, connect with each other and play.

Permission to play

This one day event is an opportunity to:

  • Link research and practice on environmental games
  • Share your experience in environmental game research or design
  • Find out how to get started using games for education and public engagement
  • Connect with others, play (with) your ideas and imagine new directions in environmental education and communication.

Join us!

There are many ways to play:

  • Submit an abstract to give a research blast – one slide, 3 minutes – intro to your work to stimulate post-blast conversations over coffee.
  • Propose a question for a world café discussion – this could be a puzzle in game design, an ethical question…anything you want to discuss with environmental games people
  • Speed introduce a game you have been designing, researching or want to share
  • Participate in the fun of the day
  • Book a session with our commercialisation team

Deadline for submission: 10th January 2026
