UoY community update

Supermarket trolleys
We’d like to remind everyone that supermarket trolleys should not be used to transport your shopping home and should remain at the supermarket. As well as being unsightly, abandoned trolleys can cause a hazard to pedestrians and vehicles.

Non-binary and transgender student sport survey
As part of their latest research project, YUSU are looking for non-binary and transgender students to share their thoughts and experiences with sport - taking part or feeling excluded from - in their latest survey. Share your thoughts to help shape future policies.

1. Student misconduct: Report + Support

If you experience harassment, violence or sexual violence, it’s important you report it to the University using our Report + Support tool, so that you get the support you need, and where appropriate, we can investigate the reported incidents. When you report an incident, an appropriate member of staff will make contact within five working days to discuss what you would like to happen next and the support available. You can also report anonymously if you wish - we can still use this information to better understand the issues impacting our community, to monitor trends and inform proactive and preventative work.

2. Get ahead with bitesize grammar

Do you know a relative clause from a cleft sentence? If not, the Academic Skills Community is here to get you on track. In short 30 minute online Bitesize Grammar sessions, you’ll learn how to understand grammar so that you can improve your academic writing. Book on the Bitesize Grammar online workshops.

3. English for Employability

English for Employability sessions for international students are taking place every Wednesday in the Careers and Placements building until 8 May. It is a chance to practise common UK interview questions and scenarios, including ‘small talk’ and how to introduce yourself. Led by international students, this will be useful for those who want to build confidence in their English skills.

4. College Varsity returns

The annual College Varsity competition against Durham University returns this Sunday (3 March). Following a triumphant first ‘away’ win for York last year, can our college teams take the trophy again in 2024? With every college sport represented at Varsity, come along to cheer your friends to victory.

5. How great is your landlord?

We’ve teamed up with YUSU, York St John University and Unipol Student Homes to launch Rate Your Landlord York, a review and ratings website that allows student tenants to leave feedback about their renting experiences. Join us for the Rate Your Landlord York launch event on Thursday (29 February) where there will be various awards categories to celebrate the best performing landlords, agents and PBSA providers in the area.
