You'll find that getting ready to leave is a busy and emotional time. As well as saying goodbye to your friends, there are lots of practical arrangements that you need to make too.

UKCISA provide advice on preparing to return home which covers:

  • Making travel arrangements
  • Tax refunds
  • People you should tell that you are leaving the UK (including a useful checklist)
  • Providing a forwarding address
  • Obtaining references while you are still in the UK
  • Reverse 'culture shock'

Closing a UK bank account

Banks often require notice of at least one week to close a UK account, as payments made by card need to be paid out of the account before the bank can calculate your closing balance.

Sending or storing luggage

If you need to freight or store your belongings, local companies can help, and some will offer special deals for students. Note that we don't specifically recommend these companies, and you should check yourself that they meet your needs:

You can also find companies who offer these services via the British Association of Removers or the British International Freight Association.
