Changes to building access on campus

News

Posted on Monday 14 September 2026

Over the coming year, we’re making changes to building access across campus, with card-based access being implemented at more building entrances.

We’re making this change to keep our community safe from crime and anti-social behaviour and to improve our ability to respond in any emergency situations, in line with the new Martyn’s Law.

Wearing your University card matters

As part of these improvements, we’re asking all of our community - students and staff - to wear your University card visibly whenever you’re on University premises. You already carry your card with you to open doors, access printing services or use the Library but now, like many other universities and colleges, we’re asking you to keep it visible - ideally on a lanyard. Your existing card will work as usual.
