News

Posted on Friday 17 October 2025

Consolidation Week is a time to pause and take a break, catch up, reflect on your learning and plan your next steps.

Consolidation Week 2024 takes place 27 - 31 October 2025 (in between Teaching Week 5 and 6).

Time to pause and rest

Sleep well to be well

From balancing your mood to improving your capacity for learning, getting enough sleep is important and you should aim for between seven and nine hours of sleep per night. Having trouble sleeping? There are lots of things you can do to help yourself. Find out how to get a good night’s rest.

Time to catch up

Complete the Academic Integrity Tutorial

All new students must complete our online Academic Integrity Tutorial. The tutorial and related tests will only take you 30 minutes so why not tick this one off your ‘to do’ list during Consolidation Week? You’ll find the tutorial on your VLE module list.

Check out our study skills support

Struggling with aspects of your course? Want to develop further? Take time during Consolidation Week to find your way around our study skills support, including.

  • Skills Guides

There’s videos, slides, and exercises on a range of skills topics, including advice on taking a break.

  • Subject Guides

You’ll find resources specific to your subject in our Subject Guides, plus help and guidance from your Faculty Librarian.

See all forthcoming academic skills workshops.

  • Academic skills one-to-one appointments

Consolidation Week could be an ideal time to get a one-to-one appointment with the Writing Centre, Study Coaching, or Maths Skills Centre.

Time to reflect and plan

Consolidation Week can be a time to think about what you're good at, what is important to you and what makes you thrive.

Work through the Success at York Toolkit

By working your way through videos, podcasts and activities, our Success at York Toolkit can help you reflect on what your time at university might all be for and help you plan for your future.

What are your strengths?

Take a moment to look at the York Strengths Professional Skills resources to explore the key professional skills that employers look for, and reflect on how you can use and develop these skills during your time at university and beyond.

The Careers and Placements team drop-in service is available 10am to 12 noon, Monday to Thursday, in the Careers building. Come and chat about how to get started with career-related issues.

Skills Hub

You’ll find links to all this in our new Skills Hub, where you can explore all the skills you develop at university, in addition to your subject knowledge.
