Calling all cyclists - light up, be seen and be safe!

Posted on 17 November 2023

The Travel and Transport team will be at the Field Lane crossroads on Tuesday 28 November between 4pm to 6pm, sharing their best tips and advice on keeping you and your bike safe whilst cycling this winter.

They’ll also be joined by a local Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) who will be there to advise on protecting your bike from theft, and sharing information on registering and marking your bike.

This is a good opportunity to ask any questions or queries you have around cycle safety in York.

Remember, the Highway code states that, at night, cyclists must have white front and red rear lights. If you don’t have lights, you could get an on-the-spot fine. Bikes must also be fitted with a red rear reflector and amber pedal reflectors.

If you're a cyclist and currently do not have any cycle safety gear such as lights, high-vis vests and straps, they may be able to provide you with these on the day.

Event location:

Field Lane crossroads (at the traffic lights near Heslington Church between Campus East and West).
