Light up, be seen and be safe

Posted on 3 November 2022

Cyclists - claim free high-visibility vests, bike lights and ankle reflectors.

With the darker evenings, it’s even more important to be seen if you’re cycling on the roads.

The Highway Code states that, at night, cyclists must have white front and red rear lights. If you don’t have lights, you could get an on-the-spot fine. Bikes must also be fitted with a red rear reflector and amber pedal reflectors.

Claim free safety gear

The Travel and Transport Team are giving away free high-visibility vests, bike lights and ankle reflectors (while stocks last) on Thursday 24 November 2022, between 4-6pm. The Police will also be in attendance, offering advice on bike passports and security identification tagging.

Catch them at Field Lane crossroads (at the traffic lights near Heslington Church between Campus East and West).
