Think before you park

Posted on 24 May 2022

Please help us maintain strong positive links with our local community.

You may be aware that unfortunately, we continue to receive complaints from our local community regarding staff and students parking inconsiderately in neighbouring streets. This is an increasing problem which is having a negative impact on the reputation of the university and is creating a perception of university staff and students that is far from accurate.

It is important that we try to change these behaviours therefore we’re asking you to think before you park. There are many sustainable ways to travel and we would always encourage you to avoid travelling by car where possible. York is a cycle city and has many safe cycle paths. There are parking hubs on both Campus East and West for the city wide e-scooters and e-cycles. We also have a regular raft of buses coming to, from and across campus on a daily basis.

However if you choose to travel by car to the University then please use one of the many car parks that we have on campus. We have many more spaces available now than ever on campus in our Pay and Display car parks.

If you choose not to park on campus then please be aware of the continued issues that parking on neighbouring streets is causing, particularly within Osbaldwick. We would ask that you park considerately and respectfully, as residents and emergency services are struggling with access issues. In addition there is an increasing risk that parked cars may be damaged by large vehicles struggling to pass.

We want to continue to be a good neighbour and maintain strong positive links with our local community and we hope you will support us.
