River safety awareness session on Wednesday

Come along to learn about staying safe around York's rivers.

Rivers are dangerous - stay together and drink safely

Health and Safety Services are holding a river safety awareness session, where North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, York Rescue Boat, Royal National Lifeboat Institution, Royal Lifesaving Society and members of YUSU and GSA will all be in attendance.

Come and meet the rescue teams who work on the river, have a look at the equipment and learn about the important issues around river safety in York. 

Advice for staying safe 

  • Don’t walk home near water
  • Look out for your friends ​ - make sure they get home safely
  • Never enter the water if you have been drinking alcohol
  • Remember that drinking alcohol ​can ​seriously ​impair your ability to get yourself out of trouble
