Meat Free Mondays was launched by Paul, Mary and Stella McCartney in 2009 as a way of raising awareness of the impact upon the environment of eating meat. Whilst many factors feed into Climate Change, the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations estimates that livestock production may be responsible for 14.5 per cent of greenhouse emissions. By cutting meat out of your diet one day a week you can help reduce greenhouse gases and eat a healthier diet.

The University is promoting Meat Free Mondays As a part of Sustainable York's One Planet campaign. Choose any vegetarian or vegan dish from one of the following outlets, any Monday between 6 January and 13 February, to collect a stamp:

Vanbrugh Food Court, Hub Café, Derwent, The Courtyard, Alcuin Bistro, The Glasshouse, Edge and, Roger Kirk Centre. 

All cards with at least four stamps will be entitled to a free piece of fruit and will be entered into a prize draw to win a luxury vegetarian hamper. Runners up prizes: vegan hamper and VIP passes to York Sport.
