Being Human: Recreating the sounds of 16th century York

Posted on 17 November 2016

Experience an installation of the sounds of 16th century York at Bedern Hall, beginning with a lecture from Dr Mariana Lopez, Friday, 18 November, 7.30pm.

'The Soundscapes of the York Mystery Plays' is an installation of the sounds of the 16th century, connecting our oral histories and the challenges of modern life. As part of the national Being Human festival, it recreates a three-dimensional version of history from archival sound recordings and modern performances.

Experience church bells from the Minster and parish churches, the sound of pigs and cats wandering the streets, wagon wheels, songs and parties.

The Soundscapes of the York Mystery Plays takes place at Bedern Hall, York, Friday, 18 November to Monday, 21 November, between 7.30pm to 8.30pm.

Dr Marina Lopez from the Department of Theatre, Film and Television will give an opening lecture on Friday, 18 November, 7.30pm.
