The University of York subscribes to the Research Professional database and use is free of charge for all staff.  To get the most out of the database you should set up a personal account.  But if you just want to find out what it can do from any computer within the University network, you can start searching directly by going to http://www.researchprofessional.com and choosing Campus Access.

Research Professional Personal Account

To get the most out of the database and to manage your searches more effectively, you need to open a personal account. This allows you to:

  • use the database from any computer – at work, at home or when travelling
  • save the results of your searches and be able to re-run them
  • create customised email alerts that will bring funding opportunities to your mailbox

Registering for Research Professional

Registration for a personal account takes about 1 minute to complete. To do this, use a computer within the University of York network and go to http://www.researchprofessional.com, click on 'Self-registration' and complete the simple form.  You will need to provide a University of York or HYMS e-mail address.

Once you have logged in, you can follow the automatic Induction Wizard.  Also, the Help links on the right hand side contain Tutorials, FAQs, a Quick Start Guide etc – these provide good reference points on how to use the database, how to customise your searches to get the results you want and they also highlight other features of the website.

Searches can be sorted by sponsor or by discipline (as broad or specific as you choose – using free text or the Rodman index), or you can run a multiple search combining various criteria at the same time.
