Internal and campus communications

Explore channels and support for sharing information with staff and students at the University.

Advice for thinking about your own communications

  • Clarify what your key messages are that you want your audience to know.
  • Consider the most effective channels for your message, eg email, social media, the Staff Digest, or a meeting. Are internal (a meeting, department newsletters) or external (Staff Digest, social media) channels needed?
  • When drafting your content, think about your audience and write your message appropriately, considering style, language and tone.
  • Do not write in jargon or use acronyms without explaining them - view our style guidelines for additional writing tips.
  • When creating social media posts or digital screens, use our brand templates.

Communicating within your department

There is no one set way to manage internal communications, and different departments will have different approaches.

You may find it useful to conduct an internal communications audit within your department to establish how well communication is currently working, and to identify barriers to effective communication. It's also important to remember that good communication is a two-way process. Provide opportunities for staff and students to communicate their views to you.
