Robin Cleary

BA Sociology, Year 3

Robin's involvement in the Sociology Society (SocSoc) and as a course rep mean she’s able to share her passion for the subject with other students.

"There are so many themes to study within Sociology at York. I've gone from learning the core modules of crime and gender, to examining areas like the role of the paranormal in society, and art, taste and social stratification. In my dissertation I focused on the cultural relevance of TV show The Simpsons - it's been fascinating to learn how something so seemingly unimportant can actually influence on our society!

SocSoc is a great part of studying here. We're always getting together for themed nights out and barbecues to celebrate finishing essays and exams, and it's a real joy that there's a team dedicated to helping everyone get to know each other and have a brilliant time. Being a course rep has also given me the chance to engage with the department and other students on the course.

York's such an amazing place. The city's so beautiful and interesting for many reasons, and the people are lovely. I've never once regretted coming to study at York, and I know I never will."
