Induction
The York Graduate Research School induction event provides essential information and practical advice about starting your research programme, plus an opportunity to meet other new researchers from across the University.
Induction is for all new postgraduate researchers (i.e. PhD and Masters by Research students), including those who joined the University since our last induction event.

Our next in-person YGRS induction event will take place on Wednesday 30 September 2026, 2pm to 3.30pm in the Spring Lane Building (SLB/118, Lecture Theatre).
The event will be followed by refreshments and networking from 3.30pm to 4.30pm.

Welcome from the Dean of York Graduate Research School
Opening the event, Professor Paul Wakeling will provide you with an introduction to studying for a research degree at the University of York.
Getting started with your research degree
We will hear advice from current postgraduate researchers to help you get started and make the most of your time at York. This will include practical advice on how to plan ahead, navigate potential challenges and connect with others across the YGRS and wider University community.

A short practical overview of areas of support and where to access further information.
Refreshments and mingle
Enjoy refreshments, learn more about support available and take the opportunity to chat to one another in a welcoming space. We hope to see you there!
