Research funding

Students doing research

Funding is an important aspect of any researcher's life, and as a research student you can apply for funding for a range of opportunities.

Our academic departments offer some subject-specific funding opportunities. They also provide advice on where you may be able to source funding for your area of interest.

Many organisations also offer tailored funding for specific events and opportunities. The University subscribes to the Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding, which lists grants, trusts and charities that could help fund travel to a conference or other part of your research.

YGRS Conference Fund

Self-funded PhD students can apply for funding to attend research training events when other funding options have been exhausted.

Funding will be allocated in two annual rounds. Applicants must allow time for their supervisor to submit the application by the deadline. Late applications cannot be considered.

The deadline for the second round of bids to the YGRS Conference Fund for this academic year is 12 midnight on Friday 1 May 2020 (money needs to be claimed by 31 July 2020).
