Research funding

Students doing research

Funding is an important aspect of any researcher's life, and as a research student you can apply for funding for a range of opportunities.

Our academic departments offer some subject-specific funding opportunities. They also provide advice on where you may be able to source funding for your area of interest.

Many organisations also offer tailored funding for specific events and opportunities. The University subscribes to the Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding, which lists grants, trusts and charities that could help fund travel to a conference or other part of your research.

Check our Research Student Community blog to keep up to date with funding offers as they arise, or check the YGRS newsletter for a news roundup.

YGRS Conference Fund

Self-funded PhD students can apply for funding to attend research training events when other funding options have been exhausted.

For the remainder of the 2019/20 academic year, students may apply for funding on a rolling basis and awards will be made until the funding for this year has run out.

Please note that this is a limited fund, so students should apply for funding as soon as they become aware of any events/courses that they may wish to attend.

Funding should be applied for in the usual way, by completing the form below and sending to research-student-admin@york.ac.uk
