Abstract: Jamais vu is the curious opposite of deja vu—a feeling of strangeness or unfamiliarity that arises for things that you know should be familiar. Akira will present the story behind the 2023 Ignobel Prize-winning research into jamais vu. The story spans decades—from the hidden origins of jamais vu as a phenomenon of psychological interest, to his own involvement in its study during his time as a PhD student, researcher, and dissertation project supervisor.
