Ever wondered what contact lenses, food, detergents, cosmetics and nappies have in common? Mystery solved! They all contain water-based materials called ‘hydrogels’. Interested in finding out why and how they work? Or curious to see how you can use them in your jelly recipes and drinks? Then come along and join researchers from the University of York’s Department of Chemistry as they illustrate through simple experiments how to prepare hydrogels and how they are used in everyday life.
