Masters students Elisabeth James and Matthew Sullivan work with the Whitby Lobster Hatchery to understand the role of lobsters in the local ecology.
We are delighted that all of our research was rated world-leading (4*) or internationally excellent (3*) in REF2021. Only 3 other mathematics departments in the country achieved 100% 4* and 3* in all three categories: outputs, impact and environment.
Dr Jess Hargreaves (Department of Mathematics) and her team have published a paper which looks at how Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL) schemes supported groups of mathematics students with their studies during the Covid-19 pandemic.
