Poetry Society collection

The Poetry Society Collection consists of around 11,000 volumes of both literary and critical works, especially poetry, published between 1709-2006.

In particular there is an emphasis on English writing of the 19th- and early 20th-centuries.

You can explore the collection via YorSearch, the Library catalogue. Most of the items in the collection can be borrowed and are located in the Morrell building. A small quantity of books are in the Rare Books Collection and may be consulted at the Borthwick Institute for Archives.

About the collection

Acquisition

The Poetry Society Library was handed to the University, as a long term loan, in 1986. This was marked with a reception in Langwith College Senior Common Room on 29 October 1986. The arrangement originated from the particular interest of a staff member in the Department of English in 20th-century poetry, at a time when the Poetry Society was looking to establish a library outside of London.
