Upcoming work to renew network certificate
Posted on Thursday 3 September 2026
On Monday 7 September (between 12 noon and 12:15pm), we will make an essential change to the eduroam wifi network and campus wired network. This change affects all staff and students.
To maintain network security, we are renewing the certificate that ensures your devices securely connect to the network. This certificate validates that the network you are connecting to is provided by the University.
You may need to take action for your devices to continue connecting:
- Your device may prompt you to accept the network certificate before you can connect.
- You may need to follow our guides to set up a device for the eduroam wifi network or campus wired network.
If your device already connects successfully, there is no further action you need to take.
If you are prompted to accept the network certificate
When you next attempt to use the University network on campus, you may be prompted to accept the new network certificate to allow your device to connect.
The prompt message will vary depending on your device's operating system, but will be similar to the example shown below (taken from Windows).
Continue connecting?
If you expect to find eduroam in this location, go ahead and connect. Otherwise, it may be a different network with the same name.
Show certificate details
You should confirm that the certificate details displayed match the details provided below before continuing to connect. For example, in the screenshot above you would select Show certificate details.
Certificate details
Your device may not display all of these certificate details. For example, it may only show one of the fingerprints, a serial number and/or the issuer. As long as the details that are displayed match, it is safe to proceed.

If the details displayed in the prompt match those shown above and your device connects successfully, there is no further action required.
If your device fails to connect, follow the steps below to set up your device for the network.
