These scholarships and studentships are available to postgraduate taught students in the Department of English and Related Literature.

English and Related Literature MA Scholarships

We are pleased to be able to offer ten scholarships to the value of £1,000 each.

MA Bursary

The Department of English and Related Literature will offer a bursary of 5% of the discounted taught MA tuition fee to alumni who have successfully completed an undergraduate degree in the Department.

Overseas Students' MA Bursaries

We are pleased to offer a number of Academic Excellence Bursaries for Overseas MA students and will automatically consider all our Overseas MA students for individual bursary awards of £1,000

Commonwealth Scholarship

The University of York is a host university for the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. Various opportunities are available throughout the year. The majority of awards are funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

Marshall Scholarship

The Marshall Scholarship finances young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the United Kingdom. Up to fifty Scholars are selected each year to study at graduate level at a UK institution in any field of study.

Prime Minister’s Fellowship

The Governance Innovation Unit (GIU) at the Prime Minister’s Office in Bangladesh has been awarding Prime Minister Fellowships to government officials, university educators, and high-achieving individuals in higher education since 2018.

York Minster Choral Scholarships

York Minster offers choral scholarships lasting 12 months or longer to altos, tenors and basses who are undergraduate or postgraduate students.

Yorkshire Bach Choir

We are now accepting applications for our choral scholarship scheme for 2024/25. The 12-month scholarships will be open to all four voice parts.

Tom and Eileen House Scholarship

Thanks to the generous support of alumnus Richard House, we can help ensure that the opportunity to study for a Masters degree is open to all.

Equal Access Scholarship (postgraduate)

We're pleased to offer one Equal Access Scholarship for a taught postgraduate student seeking refuge in the UK. Please note that you must have applied to the University of York before submitting an application for this scholarship.

  • Funding: £14,880 living costs plus a full fee waiver
  • Academic year: 2023/24
  • Application deadline: Tuesday 25 April 2023, 9am BST
  • Open to: Students from International (non-EU) residing and seeking sanctuary in the UK
  • Number available: 1

Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust Bursary

The Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust offer bursaries to people in financial need and who have a parent or spouse or are employed themselves as a commercial traveller, pharmacist or grocer.

  • Funding: Up to £5,000 per year
  • Academic year: 2023/24
  • Application deadline: Friday 1 September 2023, 5pm BST
  • Open to: UK (home) students
