Visiting the department for the open day and my interview was what really made York stand out above the other universities I was considering and I am so glad I chose to come here
Amy, March 2016
The lecture courses all link together really well and I have learnt so much, even in just the two terms that I have been here. We have tutorials and workshops, which are really useful for going over anything you didn’t understand in lectures.
Coming to university, I was quite apprehensive about labs and didn’t really know what to expect. However, looking back, it is really motivating to see how much my skills have improved, even just in two terms, and labs are now one of the things I look forward to the most.
There are demonstrators, technicians and teaching staff in labs to help you out and they are all really friendly and approachable.
ChemSoc socials are a great way to get to know people, and I have also made so many good friends in my college and tutorial group within the department.
Outside of chemistry, there is so much to do! There are fantastic sports facilities on both East and West campuses, which I have enjoyed using, as well as a huge number of societies.
One of the best things about York is that there are so many opportunities, regardless of what level you are. For example, there are choirs and groups for musicians at the highest level, as well as more fun and sociable choirs, which I go to!
York is a beautiful city and the campus is just a 10 minute bus ride away from the city centre, where there so many shops, restaurants, pubs and things to do. There are two cinemas and the buses run all night, so I always feel really safe going out to any of the student club nights during the week as well.
I would definitely recommend choosing York for Chemistry!
