My experience of studying Chemistry at York has been fantastic

Ruth, March 2016

Although I initially applied for the 4 year MChem course, the flexibility within the department meant that at the end of my 2nd year, when I became interested in pursuing a career in teaching, I was able to switch to a 3 year BSc course.

This allowed me the opportunity to undertake a Chemical Communications Project based in a local York school.

Through this, I spent 11 full days in a school Science Department, becoming involved with day-to-day lessons and carrying out a project of my choice.

This enjoyable and invaluable insight into teaching encouraged me further and I went on to make successful applications for a PGCE place at Kings College London and the Royal Society of Chemistry teaching scholarship.
