Lasers in Chemistry 

This module provides an understanding of the properties of lasers and modes of action of modern lasers and an overview of the diverse ways in which lasers are used in chemical applications.

Introduction to lasers

Laser action, properties of lasers, continuous wave versus pulsed.

Lasers in frequency domain spectroscopy

High resolution applications, cavity ring down spectroscopy, scattering, pump-probe spectroscopy, molecular beams and the study of van der Waals complexes.

Lasers in the time-domain

Dynamics of bimolecular reactions, observation of transition state species; femtochemistry and coherent control of chemical reactions; applications in gas phase electron diffraction studies.
