About Nigel Alcock
Nigel joined York in September 2024 to take up the post of Chief Financial and Operating Officer (CFOO).
He has an extensive track record in financial and operational management. He worked as a senior manager and board director in large, complex organisations. His experience includes roles in the energy, automotive, telecoms and healthcare sectors, for companies that operate across Europe, the United States and Asia.

After completing a degree in civil engineering at the University of Bristol, Nigel pursued a career in accountancy and became a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
In his early career, he worked in manufacturing industries, including advanced materials and automotive. He then joined PricewaterhouseCoopers and spent a number of years in management consultancy before returning to industry.
More recently, Nigel moved into the higher education sector in 2016, where he has held several senior roles across the sector, including at Coventry University, the University of Cambridge, and the University of Surrey.
In 2024 Nigel completed an interim role as Chief Financial Officer at the University of Surrey.
