Ordinance 8: Committees
8.1 The most senior formal committees of the University (namely the Council, the Senate and the University Executive Board) may establish their own committees for delegation of business as they deem fit, and have the authority to review, merge or disband such committees.
Additionally, these bodies (and their committees) may establish panels, boards and steering or task and finish groups on an ad hoc basis to discharge specific roles and functions.
8.2 As the ultimate decision-making body, the Council’s current committees are as follows:
- Senate
- Audit and Risk Committee
- Constitution and Nominations Committee
- Finance Committee
- People & Remuneration Committee
- Urgent Decisions Group
8.3 Chairs of Council sub-committees shall hold office for a period of three years (or such shorter period as the Council may determine) or until resignation or removal. If not so removed they may be reappointed for one further term of up to three years. In exceptional circumstances, the Council may at the end of the second term, on the recommendation of the Constitution and Nominations Committee, recommend an extension to the period of office up to a period of 18 months.
8.4 Joint Committees shall be established in exceptional circumstances, including the joint committee of the Council and the Senate to recommend to the Council appointment of the Vice-Chancellor and President.
