MSc Engineering Management
Operate effectively within this strategically important part of professional engineering
Year of entry: 2025 (September)
Develop your innovation and analytical skills to become an effective manager with an engineering firm.
All new technologies, products and services require careful management to take them from the concept stage to commercial success. This course will enable you to operate within a strategically important part of professional engineering, irrespective of the technical area.
The course is taught by internationally leading experts and practising managers to ensure you master not only the theory of management tools and techniques, but also how they are applied in real engineering situations.
Accreditation
Accredited by the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) under licence from the UK regulator, the Engineering Council.
Some employers recruit preferentially from accredited degrees, and an accredited degree is likely to be recognised by other countries that are signatories to international accords.

All I can say is the courses have exceeded my expectations. The lectures are not merely delivering content that we can read in books, but interactive activities also help us to develop critical thinking skills.
Professional development
Our Engineering Management Masters course follows a carefully designed Professional Development Framework, created in collaboration with key contributors from industry, research and academia. The framework will help you develop transferable skills and professional behaviours, which will support your studies and future career.
Through an intensive induction programme and ongoing masterclasses, workshops and activities, you will become:
- a more personally effective individual
- a more confident communicator
- a stronger team leader
- a more effective user of IT
- adept at research, reporting and managing data.

I have discovered new abilities and developed many skills, including leadership, emotional intelligence and most importantly, the capability to adapt to changes. All these skills have given me confidence and boosted my expertise to set up for the next level of my career plan in the industrial sector.
Course content
You'll develop a thorough grounding in aspects of management relevant to the technical manager, creative and innovative thinking, and a deep understanding of how to apply management thinking to state-of-the-art technology issues.
A major group project towards the end of the course will help you gain practical experience of skills applicable to management of engineering functions within companies, and to develop your research, team working, problem-solving, personal effectiveness and communication skills for academic and professional purposes.
