Ordinance 19: University of York Students' Union

19.1 There shall be constituted in the University of York a Students' Union, hereinafter referred to as the Union.

19.2 All registered students of the University shall become members of the Union but shall have the right to withdraw from membership in accordance with the procedure approved by the University Council and set out in the Code of Practice provided for in 19.4 below.

19.3 The aims of the Union shall be:

a. to promote and defend the general interests of its members and to represent them in matters affecting their interests;

b. to further such policies of the Union as are decided according to the Students' Union Constitution as approved by the University Council in accordance with the Code of Practice provided for in 19.4 below.

19.4 There shall be a Code of Practice, to be approved by the University Council, governing the conduct and management of the Union in accordance with the requirements of Part 2 of the Education Act 1994.
