Code of Conduct

International Offer Holder groups

At the University of York our supportive community is built on shared values of respect, fairness and compassion.

To ensure that everyone can engage in and benefit from our offer holder social media groups we ask you to act in accordance with our code of conduct. This is designed to create a welcoming environment where people of all backgrounds and identities can feel at home. For more information please see our community declaration

By requesting to join an offer holder group, you agree to:

  • Behave in a friendly, cooperative, polite, responsible and respectful manner towards all other participants, university students and university staff.
  • If you are using a device you share with other people, you will make sure you are logged out of your account on that device when not in use by you.
  • Please do not private message other users in the group (unless agreed otherwise), or share any personal information.
  • Report any inappropriate or offensive behaviour to the member of university staff running the group via direct private message.

By engaging in our online activity you agree you will not, under any circumstances:

  • Share your personal information in the group.
  • Share any information that is not related to the topic of the group.
  • Attempt to contact any other participant, staff member or student ambassador outside of the group (unless agreed otherwise).
  • Behave inappropriately or in such a manner that would disrupt the online activity, or experience of other participants.
  • Use disrespectful or discriminatory terms on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexuality, religious beliefs, disability or any other personal characteristics.
  • Use abusive terms and swear words or language and/or gestures that may cause offence to other participants.
  • For more information please refer to Together York: The University of York Community Declaration and The Community of Respect webpages.

If you fail to adhere to the above rules and guidelines, you accept that:

The university staff member running the group has the authority to remove you from participating in the group. If you display behaviour that is not respectful towards other participants, university students, or staff you will be removed and may be prevented from joining again, or participating in other subsequent University-related online activity.
