National Student Money Week 2026

Get Future Ready and Money Skills for Success! This year’s theme is all about developing core money-related life skills that will be relevant long past the end of your studies - so we’ve lined up exciting events, competitions, and giveaways to help you build skills whilst having fun!
We are also raising awareness of how gambling and gaming can impact finances, tips and tricks for ensuring you stay on track, and where to get support if you or a friend need a bit of extra help. There’s lots of experts around all week, so come along to find out more.
Events
Monday 2 March
- Let's Get National Student Money Week Started! | 1pm - 4pm, Piazza foyer
The Gambling Support Charity, Chapter One, along with HSBC Bank, the Fraud Prevention Team, and our Student Money Adviser and Student Money Helpers will be available to talk to you about all things money-related, and offer lots of information and giveaways to build Money Skills for Success. - Creative clothes mending workshop |11am - 2pm, Harry Fairhurst, LFA/204
Got an item of clothing that needs a bit of love and care? Learn how to patch and mend clothes using creative embroidery techniques - it’s sustainable and cost saving!
Wednesday 4 March
- Sports Betting Awareness - Gamcare on hand! |2pm - 4pm, York Sport Centre
Online sports betting is the most popular gambling activity for male students - it can be fun, but what are the costs? Gaming charity Gamcare, YorkSU and our Student Money Helpers will be on hand to chat at York Sport Centre about staying safe in the sports betting world. - York SU Fruit and Root session
Bags of fruit and vegetables are available (as long as stocks last!) to help with the cost of living. Bags can be reserved via a free ticket and these tickets will go live on the York SU events page soon. Thursday 5 March
- Level up lunch | 2pm - 4pm, David Kato College
Our Student Money Helpers are hosting a Level up Lunch to help you manage your money long term. Pop in for a chat, visit stalls and collect stamps to enjoy some free food and be surprised by what you learn…
Friday 6 March
- National Student Money Week information stand | Library foyer, 12pm - 2pm
Drop by our final information stand for the week for quick money tips, tricks and giveaways!
