We hope to keep the impact on students to a minimum. We cannot forecast exactly how many members of staff will take action on the days of the strikes, as staff are not legally required to inform the University that they intend to take strike action.
However, if the strikes follow the pattern of recent action, participation rates have run at between 3 and 4 percent allowing the large majority of classes to go ahead as normal.
Yes, unless you are told otherwise by your Department or the timetabling office.
Your department will inform you as soon as they can if any of your lectures or seminars have been cancelled. We expect any classes cancelled due to industrial action, to be re-scheduled or the work covered at other times. Likewise, there should be no delay in returning assessed work to students.
If you do miss any teaching as a result of the strike action, we guarantee that you will not be placed at a disadvantage with regards to assessment and exams.
Yes. All University central services including registry services, student support services and the library and IT services will be open, but may be operating with reduced levels of service.
If you find your Supervisor is not available during the period of action, you should rearrange your appointment as soon as possible.
If you submit your assessment via the VLE, or any other on-line system, you can submit your work as normal. If you are required to submit your work in person and your lecturer or tutor is not available, please submit your work to the main office in your department.
Any other assessments or panel meetings will be re-arranged. In addition, the Student Administration Building will be open as usual.
Each department will make every effort to ensure the laboratories remain open and running to the agreed timetable. If, for any reason any lab classes are disrupted or if any alternative arrangements have been put in place, your department will inform you as soon as possible.
