New software, new training and new support for researchers following the recent survey. See what's new for you and take part in the hardware survey to keep these improvements coming.

Improving IT services for researchers

Results of the training and support survey

The Research Computing Working Group (RCWG) is a sub-group of the University IT Committee; it is chaired by Dr Matt Probert from Physics and has a membership of both academic and support staff with an interest in, or responsibility for, research computing. The purpose of the group is to help improve research computing facilities across the University.

Earlier this year, the RCWG issued a questionnaire on the provision of training and support for research computing software. The response to this survey was very useful and a report of the findings has been published here. As a result of this work, IT Services have purchased a site licence for Matlab and Qualtrics and have initiated a programme of specialist training aimed at researchers.

Tell us what your hardware needs are

To help further improve IT support for researchers, the RCWG has devised a new questionnaire that aims to understand research computing hardware needs. As with the survey on software, the data gathered will be used in formulating a strategy to address any gaps we may have in hardware provision and I therefore urge you to have your say.

The survey can be found at the link below and can be accessed until 5pm on Monday October 13th.
