Phishing scams are very common around this time of year, in the lead up to the payment of the first instalment of student loans and grants. There are always a number of phishingemails and text messages in circulation and some look very authentic. Payment information for new students:

Your maintenance loan and any grants due to you will be paid directly into your bank account in three instalments throughout the year. Your first payment will be released once you have registered with your university or college and your attendance has been confirmed to Student Finance England.

Your Tuition Fee Loan is paid directly to your university or college.

Payment Checklist:

  • Before you can be paid your first loan/grant instalment please make sure:
  • You've submitted your application and all the correct supporting evidence
  • Your bank details are correct on your application – check your online account
  • You've signed and returned your declaration form
  • You've registered at university or college
  • You have moved into your University accommodation or if in private accommodation been to either Fees Office or the Student Administration Building with your University Card and notification of assessment by Student Finance England
  • You’ve allowed 2-3 working days for the funds to be paid into your bank account
