PhD positions
We are currently recruiting for a fully-funded PhD position supervised by Dr Andreas Heinemeyer.
The successful candidate will be fully integrated into the friendly Peatland-ES-UK research team at York, a nationally recognised long-term peatland study and part of a large NERC peatland research project. The project will be closely linked to ongoing peatland restoration work (including placements) by the North York Moors National Park Authority and policy development as part of the UK’s Joint Nature Conservation Committee. The student will be mainly based at the University of York at the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and benefit from well-established national and international networks with end-users of peatland restoration and policy makers.
The student will become an expert in understanding peatland development within a human landscape. Using an existing peatland model (MILLENNIA) for scenarios and environmental monitoring as part of field and laboratory trials, the student will become skilled in basic model development and applications by making policy relevant predictions of peatlands’ past, present and likely futures.
