New Collaboration to Advance Sustainable Composting Solutions
Knowledge Exchange Fellowship to partner with Isles of Scilly Community Venture to address food waste management challenges.
ETL has secured funding from the York Environmental Sustainability Institute (YESI) for a new Knowledge Exchange Fellowship. ETL has convened researchers with specialisms in biology, business and engineering at York to partner with the Isles of Scilly Community Venture (IOSCV) to address challenges in creating high-quality compost from variable food waste streams and establishing sustainable, circular systems for waste collection, compost production, and distribution.
In February 2025, York academics will visit Scilly to participate in workshops to exchange knowledge with key local stakeholders. In May 2025, IOSCV Executive Director George Goldberg will bring soil and compost samples to York for collaborative analysis with York academics and participate in discussions with industry and academic experts.
Together, the team will develop research priorities and deliver practical solutions for food waste management tailored to Scilly’s unique context, contributing to broader efforts in circular economy innovation.
