Democratising Protein Research with Cutting-Edge Tools

The ETL has been awarded a BBSRC Transformative Research Technologies (TRT) grant to develop a groundbreaking new tool for protein research.

The ETL's innovative approach focuses on how early-stage technology development is influenced by social factors. By considering the opportunities, incentives, training, and experiences of technology developers, the team aims to create tools that not only advance scientific knowledge but also address real-world challenges.

Specifically, this new BBSRC TRT grant will fund the development of a low-cost instrument, implemented in a robust, benchtop format, that is able to accurately and sensitively measure multiple protein interactions in parallel. Our ultimate ambition is that the technology becomes the accepted tool for routine screening of proteins. To support this, and to ensure the technology considers the wider needs and priorities of potential users, we have included a work package focussed specifically on end-user engagement. This includes users within the UK but also Globally e.g. we will work with international partners who have a particular interest in early identification of zoonotic pathogens.
