We bring physicists and engineers together to push the frontiers of knowledge, foster innovation and meet the grand challenges facing society. Our aim is to develop new technologies that work for the public good, in an environment where everyone can thrive.

The creation of this School, one of three being launched, is a key part of our Change Programme, supporting our vision for York to be a University for public good. Along with Environmental Sustainability at York, it enables us to bring together our collective knowledge and expertise, to create fresh and distinctive new research and teaching opportunities.

Professor Kieran Gibson, Head of School, said:

“We're a School at the forefront of pioneering global research and technological advancement in our world-leading research centres.”

Work has been ongoing over the past few months to bring together the School, and this work will continue in the coming year and beyond.

From 1 August you will see the new School’s name reflected in some of our social media, for example Instagram and YouTube, and online identity with our new school website. We will be hosting our official launch event during the 2022/2023 academic year.

We are very proud of what we have achieved already and are looking forward to the future.
