The first Fusion Industry School (FIS) was held in June 2022

The first Fusion Industry School (FIS) was held at the University of York during 20-24 June,
2022. Over 30 delegates were welcomed by Prof Matthias Ruth, University of York pVC
(Research), and enjoyed a stimulating set of presentations on a wide range of fusion science
and technology issues that underpin the development of fusion as a commercial energy
source. Prof Charlie Jeffery, VC of University of York, spoke at the dinner on the importance
of fusion energy, and the importance of events like the Fusion Industry School for growing
the supply chain as we progress into its industrialisation era. CDT students mixed with the
delegates in a poster session, sharing their complementary experiences of working in
academic and non-academic environments.

Feedback from the delegates was very positive, with 100% of them “Very satisfied” with the
speakers, and all agreeing that FIS met their expectations.

“This school is essential for early and mid career scientists, engineers and regulators to
grow a common understanding in a younger base of fusion expertise in the UK”, Justyn
Crane (Optima Systems Consultancy Limited).

FIS is organised jointly as a collaboration between the Fusion CDT and UKAEA, the second
week of this first event is scheduled for 19-23 September, 2022 at Culham and University of
Oxford.
