The Second Quantum Revolution: From entanglement to quantum technologies
Event details
School of Physics, Engineering and Technology Webinar Series
Until the turn of the century, quantum phenomena such as entanglement and superposition were almost considered a curiosity, stemming from the complex mathematical description of quantum mechanics. That is, until the scientific community set a sharper and sharper focus on the potential practical consequences of these wonders. From entanglement to quantum computation, from teleportation to quantum communication, this talk will bring you on a journey along the magical world of the second quantum revolution.
About the speaker
Prof Irene D'Amico has spent the last 25 years researching the science behind quantum technologies, specializing in quantum computation and, more recently, in quantum thermodynamics. She has written more than 150 publications in scientific journals and books, as well as being invited 100+ times to present her findings at scientific conferences and universities worldwide. She is a professor at the University of York and enjoys thinking, mountaineering and
gardening.
