The University of York has climbed 15 places in the latest QS World University rankings.
York made progress measured against a number of key indicators, including moving up the rankings for employment outcomes

Out of more than 1,500 institutions across the world, the University is now placed 169th and 25th in the UK, according to the QS World University Rankings 2026.

Employability

The rankings are a framework that rates universities around a number of key areas, including employability and outcomes, global engagement, learning experience and sustainability.

York made progress measured against a number of key indicators, including moving up the rankings for employment outcomes and research citations per faculty. It also moved into the top 100 for international research networks and maintained its top 50 ranking around sustainability.

It also moved into the top 200 for academic reputation (197), which QS places the most emphasis on (30%).

The latest QS ranking follows on from York’s strong position in The Complete University Guide (CUG) 2026, which saw the University climb five places to 12th place in the UK.

Dedication

Vice-Chancellor Professor Charlie Jeffery said: “It is really pleasing to see the hard work and dedication of all our staff and students pay off in the QS rankings and also the Complete University Guide, particularly against some key measures of employability and academic reputation.

“We know league tables are important and the QS ranking is especially relevant for international students. It helps guide them about the top universities that will inspire and equip them for successful global careers, foster cultural exchange and provide a high-quality academic experience. Here at York, we're proud to be consistently recognised amongst the best.”
