Professor Simon Gilbody has once again been recognised in the top one per cent of the world’s most influential published scientists.

Clarivate™, a global provider of data, insights and analytics, has released its 2025 list of scientists and social scientists who have demonstrated significant and broad influence in their field of research.

For another consecutive year, Professor Gilbody has been selected for authoring multiple Highly Cited Papers™. These rank in the top 1% by citations for their field and publication year in the Web of Science™ over the past decade.

Professor Gilbody is an internationally recognised authority on brief, scalable solutions to mental health challenges such as anxiety and depression.  In 2023 he was elected to the Academy of Medical Sciences and is an NIHR Senior Investigator.

Delivering solutions

His work continues to shape the landscape of mental health support. Following his team's crucial research tracking the impacts of lockdown during the COVID pandemic, he has focused on delivering these solutions at scale. Together with Prof Dean McMillan and colleagues from the Hull York Medical School and Health Sciences, he co-founded the University’s first mental health spinout – Third Age Therapeutics.

Professor Gilbody said: “This is a great honour and a testament to the collective strength of psychology, mental health and population science at York. It is nice to see my team’s research so widely cited and recognised in this way, as we continue to be driven by the need to tackle the epidemics of mental ill health and loneliness.”

Mental health crisis

Offering congratulations, Professor Andy Dougill, Dean of Faculty of Sciences added “This is well-deserved recognition for Professor Gilbody’s influential and impactful research. Delivered for the public good, his research directly addresses the mental health crisis through scalable solutions like the University spin-out, Third Age Therapeutics. This is a fantastic example of how York experts are driving positive change where it matters most.”
