Postgraduate students from the University of York have won the UK National L’ Oréal Brandstorm Competition 2016, making it through to the global finals in Paris.

Juliana Akrobetu, Olivia Batty and Meg French, MSc Global Marketing students at The York Management School (TYMS), took to the stage at L’ Oréal’s UK and Ireland’s head office in London as team Meraki Marketing to represent York in the UK finals.

Out of 60 entries in the UK, 11 of which were from York, Meraki Marketing was one of eight teams selected to present their ideas at the London finals. Their task consisted of developing an integrated marketing communications strategy introducing a digital disruption to attract 15 - 25 year old consumers to L’ Oréal’s La Roche Posay brand.

Impressing a panel of three Digital, Product and Senior Recruitment judges, Meraki Marketing knocked out teams from Imperial and Bath Management Schools to get through to the evening finals.

Team Merakithen presented their strategy to 50 L’Oréal UK and Ireland Managing Directors and Executives, winning the competition against a team from St Andrews University.

Juliana, Olivia and Meaghan will travel to Paris on 30 June to compete in the Brandstorm International Finals against over 40 other countries. The finals will be live streamed.

The students said: “The Brandstorm competition is embedded in the assessments for the Masters in Global Marketing at the York Management School. This gave us the edge against Bath and Imperial as we were able to leverage theoretical concepts to illuminate our creative ideas.”
