Representatives from 60 local businesses attended a breakfast launch of the University of York’s Internship Bureau’s 2016 summer scheme at Bettys last week.

Based within the University’s Careersteam, the Internship Bureau works with a wide range of local businesses to offer short-term, high-quality student projects in a cost-effective and flexible way.

Last summer over 150 University interns offered a wealth of skills and talent to a range of companies based in York and North Yorkshire. Projects included:

conducting market research for a large frozen vegetable supplier in to the possibilities of exporting their products to the Far East

developing template HR policy documents in-line with latest good practice

designing a social media and marketing strategy for a start-up business

During the event, Sarah McKenzie, Head of Marketing at Animalcare Group plc, spoke about the positive experiences they have in hosting interns, and the impact that students have had on their business.

Lewis McDowell, a second year BA Management student, also spoke about his 2015 summer internship with the York Racecourse Centre, where he developed a successful business model and marketing proposal to attract more customers.

Jennifer Plummer, Internship Bureau Coordinator, said: "I'm delighted that so many guests attended the event to find out how our talented and motivated students can provide a range of skills to support and develop their businesses. Interns add real value to the host organisation and we look forward to advertising a wide range of exciting projects to our students this summer."

The Internship Bureau team can be contacted on careers-sib@york.ac.uk 01904 322683 / 322492 and businesses interested in hosting an intern over the summer vacation, or on a part-time basis at any point in the year, are encouraged to get in touch with the team.
