Students from the University of York’s Department of Theatre, Film and Television scored a hat-trick of awards this week at the Royal Television Society Yorkshire Student Awards 2014.

They are all recent BSc graduates in Film and TV Production and produced the award-winning short films as part of their third year projects. They are:

1st Runner-up, Entertainment - Kieron Moore and team for Breaking News

1st Runner-up, Fiction - Andrew Kueh, Harry Woodman and team for Prime Contact

2nd Runner-up, Fiction - Hannah Palumbo, Eloise Davison and team for Pearl

Pearl is a short film exploring themes of morality, change and adolescence and Prime Contact is a stylish action thriller with a sci-fi twist. Both were produced as part of the third year Group Project: Film Production module.  Breaking News is a comedy set in the newsroom of an underwhelming local newspaper, and was part of the third year Group Project: Studio TV Production module.

John Mateer, Senior Lecturer and Subject Head for Film and Television, said: "We are immensely proud of the talented students we have and it is wonderful to see their work honoured in this way. This year’s event featured a record number of entries and the competition was very stiff.

“Over the past three years, our BSc Film and Television Production students have won nine regional Royal Television Society awards with two of them advancing to the national finals.  We see this as a great endorsement of the programme."
