The University of York Learning and Development Team has achieved a notable hat-trick by winning their third Times Higher Education Award in five years.

The team received the Award for Outstanding Contribution to Leadership Development at a spectacular ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane.

The University’s Director of Human Resources, Pat Lofthouse, said "Given increasing league table pressures, marketisation and the daily challenges of academic management, it is more important than ever to have strong, shared, collective leadership at a departmental level.

“Complementing our six existing individually focused leadership programmes, the team focused Collaborative Leadership Programme was introduced to improve academic department leadership capability to consolidate the University’s position as a truly world class research institution.  We are delighted that this has been recognised and that the Judges praised the programme's innovative approach."

Now in their tenth year, the Times Higher Education Awards, in association with Santander Universities are a highlight of the academic calendar, shining a spotlight on the achievements of institutions, teams and individuals in the UK higher education sector. Jack Dee hosted the awards ceremony.

The Minister for Universities, Science and Cities, Greg Clark, joined academics and professional and support staff from across the country to celebrate the pioneering spirit, adaptability and quality of UK institutions.

John Gill, editor of Times Higher Education, said: “Our universities and colleges are among the nation’s most respected institutions, both domestically and internationally, and it is THE’s great privilege to have played a part in celebrating their achievements over the past decade. Long may it continue!”
