New exhibition comes to Norman Rea Gallery

News

A new exhibition featuring the paintings of artist Noelle Turner-Bridger opens at the University of York’s Norman Rea Gallery on 17 November.

Curated by student Chloe Tucker, I Just Want to Feel Everything will feature paintings inspired by the artists’ encounter with film, painting, sculpture and music videos to present a hybrid product of the painter’s experience.

Exploring the creative process of art itself, and the concept of originality, the paintings confront the uncomfortable idea of the female body as spectacle. Using psychedelic colours to create surreal worlds, the paintings reflect the complex process of absorbing our surroundings, and the personal act of encoding this information.

An opening night preview event will run from 7.00pm – 9.00pm on Monday 17 November, and the exhibition will run from 28 November – 5 December 2014.

Chloe Tucker, curator of the exhibition and a second year undergraduate in History of Art and English Literature, said: “I am so excited to be curating an exhibition featuring the paintings of Noelle Turner-Bridger. Noelle, a Fine Art student at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art at Oxford, is an up-and-coming artist whom the gallery is pleased to support as she advances in her career."

The Norman Rea Gallery is run entirely by students at the University of York. Situated above The Courtyard in Derwent College, the gallery hosts exhibitions throughout the year and promotes the work of both student and professional artists. The gallery hosts three exhibitions a term with lectures, seminars and events.
