Feilden Collection

The working collection of renowned architectural conservator Sir Bernard Feilden.

A collection of almost 200 books, pamphlets and papers is of immense value to students working in the area of architectural conservation.

The collection also includes The Feilden Papers, 46 boxfiles of pamphlets and journal articles collected together by Sir Bernard. This unique collection is listed under topics based around his work on conservation projects and interests. 

The collection is housed in the Morrell Library. Some items are in the Rare Books collection.

About the collection

The collector

Distinguished architect Sir Bernard Feilden CBE FRIBA (1919-2008) was a leading authority on heritage conservation.  He worked on many preservation projects around the world including York Minster, Hampton Court Palace, the Al-Aqsa mosque, the Great Wall of China, and the Taj Mahal.

He was appointed OBE in 1969, CBE in 1976 and knighted in 1985.

Acquisition

The collection was given to the University by Feilden in November 2000.

Related collections

The collection overlaps with the University’s Institute of Advanced Architectural Studies collection.  In the early days of the IAAS, Feilden gave lectures for the Institute’s master's degree course during the 1960s and 1970s.
